What is an eSIM?

How does an eSIM work technically?
The eSIM works through a UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) chip soldered onto the phone’s motherboard. This chip can store multiple carrier profiles simultaneously, which means you can have your local number AND an international data eSIM active at the same time, without removing any physical SIM.
When you scan the QR code for your Gigapanda plan, your phone downloads the carrier profile and stores it on the eSIM chip. From that moment on, when you arrive at your destination, the phone automatically connects to the local network associated with that profile.
What’s the difference between a physical SIM and an eSIM?

On your phone, go to Settings → Mobile data → Add plan → scan the QR code. Done: the eSIM is installed and will activate automatically when you arrive at your destination.
Can I install the eSIM before I leave?
